Mnemonic
木 is a pure pictograph of a tree — a horizontal stroke for the branches, a vertical for the trunk, and two angled strokes below for roots spreading into the ground. On: ボク (boku) — think of a "book" made of wood. The reading モク (moku) appears in 木曜日 (mokuyoubi, "Thursday") — Thursday is literally tree day. Note: 木 is also the left-hand radical 木 (き偏) found in hundreds of kanji related to wood and trees.

Mnemonic
車 is a bird's-eye view of a cart — the vertical line is the axle, the horizontal lines are the wheels and frame, and the box in the middle is the body of the vehicle. On: シャ (sha) — as in 自動車 (jidousha, "automobile"). Watch the compound pattern: 自転車 (jitensha) — "self-turning vehicle" — is a bicycle. Kun: くるま (kuruma), the everyday word.

white

Mnemonic
白 has 日 (sun) at its heart with one extra stroke on top — imagine a ray of sunlight breaking through, so bright and pure it turns everything white. On: ハク (haku). Cross-batch connection: 白 is the core of 百 (hyaku — hundred, Batch 07). One stroke added to 白 = one hundred. Remember: 白紙 (hakushi) — a blank white sheet — is a perfect mental image for the meaning.

Mnemonic
天 = 大 (big person, arms spread wide) + one stroke above — a person standing with arms outstretched, reaching up toward something even greater above them: heaven. On: テン (ten). The most common word is 天気 (tenki) — "weather" (literally "sky energy"). The kun reading あめ (ame) appears in classical and poetic Japanese; あま- in compound words like 天の川 (amanogawa, the Milky Way).

火 is a pure pictograph of a flame — the central strokes are the main fire licking upward, while the two outer strokes are sparks leaping to either side. On: カ (ka). Fire appears in the days of the week: 火曜日 (kayoubi) = Tuesday (literally "fire day"). Watch the voiced kun reading -び (-bi) in compound words like 花火 (hanabi, "fireworks" — flower + fire).
