Noun + ใฎ + ใพใˆใซ / ใ‚ใจใง

When the subject of the "before/after" clause is a noun (not a verb), insert ใฎ between the noun and ใพใˆใซ or ใ‚ใจใง.

  โ€ข ใ—ใ‘ใ‚“ใฎใพใˆใซ โ†’ before the exam
  โ€ข ใ”ใฏใ‚“ใฎใ‚ใจใง โ†’ after the meal
  โ€ข ใ—ใ”ใจใฎใพใˆใซ โ†’ before work
[NOUN] ใฎ ใพใˆใซ / ใ‚ใจใง
[noun] no mae ni / ato de
→ "Before/after [noun]"

Shiken no mae ni yoku nete kudasai.
Please sleep well before the exam.

Time noun + ใพใˆใซ โ€” relative past

ใพใˆใซ can attach to a time expression to mean "ago." This is a different use from the verb pattern โ€” it does not require a verb or ใฎ.

  โ€ข ใ•ใ‚“ใญใ‚“ใพใˆใซ โ†’ three years ago
  โ€ข ใ„ใกใ˜ใ‹ใ‚“ใพใˆใซ โ†’ one hour ago
  โ€ข ใฟใฃใ‹ใพใˆใซ โ†’ three days ago
[TIME] ใพใˆใซ
[time] mae ni
→ "[Time] ago"

Sannen mae ni Nihon ni kimashita.
I came to Japan three years ago.

ใฆใ‹ใ‚‰ vs ใ‚ใจใง โ€” nuance difference

Both express "after doing X, do Y," but they have subtle differences:

โ€ข ใฆใ‹ใ‚‰: the second action follows directly and as a result of the first. Closer sequence.
โ€ข ใ‚ใจใง: the second action happens at some point after the first. More relaxed timing.

ใฆใ‹ใ‚‰ cannot be used when the main clause describes a past state โ€” it must be an action.
ใ—ใ‚…ใใ ใ„ใ‚’ ใ—ใฆใ‹ใ‚‰ ใ‚ใใณใพใ™ใ€‚
Shukudai wo shite kara asobimasu.
I'll play after finishing homework (right after).

ใฆ-form verb chains

The ใฆ-form of a verb can chain multiple actions in sequence. Each action is connected with ใฆ, and the final verb carries the tense and politeness for the whole sentence.

โ€ข Natural speech: 2โ€“4 verbs in a chain
โ€ข Too many ใฆ-forms in a row sounds unnatural โ€” use ใใ—ใฆ or sentence breaks instead
V1-ใฆ V2-ใฆ V3 [tense]
te-form te-form final verb
→ "Did V1, then V2, then V3."
ใŠใใฆใ€ใ‹ใŠใ‚’ใ‚ใ‚‰ใฃใฆใ€ใ‚ใ•ใ”ใฏใ‚“ใ‚’ ใŸในใพใ—ใŸใ€‚
