ใฆใ„ใ‚‹ for habitual actions

ใฆใ„ใ‚‹ is not limited to actions happening right now. It also expresses habitual or regular activities โ€” things done repeatedly as a lifestyle.  โ€ข ใพใ„ใซใก + V-ใฆใ„ใ‚‹ = a daily habit  โ€ข Context usually makes the meaning clear
ใพใ„ใซใก V-ใฆ ใ„ใ‚‹
mainichi V-te iru
→ "does [V] every day (habit)"
ใพใ„ใซใก ใฏใ—ใฃใฆใ„ใ‚‹ใ€‚
Mainichi hashitte iru.
I run every day. (habitual)

ใฆใ„ใ‚‹ ambiguity โ€” action vs resulting state

The key to ใฆใ„ใ‚‹ is asking: does the action continue, or did the action end leaving a state?  โ€ข ใ—ใ‚“ใงใ„ใ‚‹ โ€” the action "to die" ended; the state "being dead" remains  โ€ข ใŸในใฆใ„ใ‚‹ โ€” the eating action is still in progress  โ€ข English translations differ: "is dying" vs "is dead"
ใ‚€ใ—ใŒ ใ—ใ‚“ใงใ„ใ‚‹ใ€‚
Mushi ga shinde iru.
The bug is dead. (result state โ€” NOT "is dying")

ใฆใ‹ใ‚‰ vs ใŸใ‚ใจใง โ€” "after doing"

Both mean "after doing X, do Y", but they feel slightly different.  โ€ข ใฆใ‹ใ‚‰ suggests the second action follows directly or as a result  โ€ข ใŸใ‚ใจใง is more neutral and can have a longer gap between actions  โ€ข At N5, either is acceptable; ใฆใ‹ใ‚‰ is more common in conversation
V-ใฆ ใ‹ใ‚‰ V2
V-te kara V2
→ "After doing V1, V2."
ใ‚ทใƒฃใƒฏใƒผใ‚’ ใ‚ใณใฆใ‹ใ‚‰ใ€ใญใพใ™ใ€‚
Shawaa wo abite kara, nemasu.
I'll sleep after taking a shower.

ใฆใฟใ‚‹ โ€” try doing something

Attach ใฟใ‚‹ (to see / to try) after a ใฆ-form to express attempting an action โ€” "try doing X and see".  โ€ข Common in suggestions and recommendations  โ€ข ใฟใ‚‹ keeps its ใฆใ„ใ‚‹ form: ใฆใฟใฆใ„ใ‚‹ = is trying
V-ใฆ ใฟใ‚‹
V-te miru
→ "try doing V"
ใŸในใฆใฟใฆใใ ใ•ใ„ใ€‚
Tabete mite kudasai.
Please try eating it.

ใฆใ„ใ / ใฆใใ‚‹ โ€” directional aspect

Attach ใ„ใ or ใใ‚‹ after a ใฆ-form to show movement direction combined with an action.  โ€ข ใฆใ„ใ = do something and go away (moving away from speaker)  โ€ข ใฆใใ‚‹ = do something and come back (moving toward speaker) or shows something begins and continues forward in time  โ€ข Very common with ใ‚‚ใค (to hold/carry)
ใ‹ใ•ใ‚’ ใ‚‚ใฃใฆใ„ใใ€‚
Kasa wo motte iku.
I'll take an umbrella (with me as I go).
